WINGS FOR NATURE - Run Today, Preserve Tomorrow !
In the collaborative effort with Friends of Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve (Friends) and STEM-ED, Youth Care Club (YCC), under the leadership of ACCEF, proudly invites you to the Wings for Nature Fun Run — an initiative to restore Black Mountain Open Space Park and raise vital awareness about nature preservation and wildfire prevention.
This is your chance to take action, make an impact, and protect our environment — all while enjoying a fun and active outdoor experience!
Why Nature Preservation & Wildfire Prevention Matter
Black Mountain Open Space Park is a stunning 2,352-acre natural area in Rancho Peñasquitos, San Diego. Known for its breathtaking 360-degree views from the summit of Black Mountain (1,554 feet), the park spans from Camino del Sur to Carmel Mountain Road and offers a variety of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Local residents can explore diverse landscapes, including chaparral, coastal sage scrub, grasslands, and riparian zones that support a rich variety of wildlife, from mule deer, bob cat to over 80 bird species.
However, the park has faced significant challenges in recent years due to multiple wildfires, which have devastated local habitats and caused the disappearance of species like the Cactus Wren, a once-abundant resident. This loss underscores the urgent need to protect and restore the park’s ecosystems, ensuring that these natural treasures remain for future generations to enjoy. With your help, we can give this vital space the attention it deserves and safeguard it for wildlife and our community.

Restore fragile ecosystems by planting native plants that improve biodiversity and soil health
Fund the purchase of a drone to help detect early wildfire threats and monitor invasive species
