What is the ACCEF rural China education fund program?
The Rural China education fund program is one of the programs of ACCEF. The main objective of our program is to act as a bridge between Chinese volunteers and US sponsors in order to provide financial support to poor elementary, middle school and high school students in China. These are children living in the poorest parts of China. They would not be able to afford to go to school without financial support. Currently, our main activity, through collaboration with the China Young Volunteer Poverty Alleviation Relay Project, is to provide one-on-one student support in southwestern and western China, the poorest regions in the country.
I can support poor students by other means, why does it through ACCEF?
By close cooperation with our collaborators and direct contact with the students we sponsored in China , we are able to send your money directly to the students in need. Our volunteers also visit the students in china every year. In addition, ACCEF is a 501(c)(3) organization. Your contribution is tax deductible.
Why do you collaborate with China Young Volunteer Poverty Alleviation Relay Project?
ACCEF is an American organization and is based in the US . We need to collaborate with a reliable local organization in China to distribute our contributions. CYV has been sending young volunteer teachers to remote poor rural schools for many years. In the past three years, a group of volunteers organized to help raise financial aid for poor students. They select students who are in need of financial aid by teacher recommendation and home visits. They follow up money distribution by directly contacting the students. Throughout our experience with them, we believe they are a very reliable organization. You may find their information at their website http://www.you2v.com/ .
How much does it cost to support a student?
Generally we only support the student's tuition fee which varies with the grade the student attends. The tuition cost for an elementary school year is about $20, a middle school year is about $100, a high school year is upward of $400. Sometimes, additional living cost support is also needed. The middle school and high school students are the most in need of support. Sometimes we need arrange several donors to support one student.
I'd like to support Chinese students, how do I start?
Donate to ACCEF, you can designate your donation to be used for the Children education fund in China program. ACCEF will choose a sponsored student for you.
You may choose and sponsor a student directly. ACCEF can make arrangements for you.
How do I support a student directly?
First, please go the website www.you2v.com . We recommend that you read through and get familiar with the volunteers of you2v. Go to ”°the list of poor students who are waiting for help”±. Please read the introduction of the students, their family background, their teacher's comment and the pictures of the students and their families.
Then fill out the sponsorship form and send a check payable to ACCEF at ACCEF P.O. Box 723008 San Diego CA, 92172-3008, U.S.A. You can claim tax deduction for your donation. We will contact the Chinese volunteers and get everything arranged.
How do I know if my money reached the student?
The Chinese volunteers or the ACCEF volunteers will send an acknowledgement letter to you. They will also send a letter to the student you are supporting. In most cases, supporters receive personal thank you letters from the student.
Can I keep in contact with the students?
Yes, you are encouraged to keep in contact with the students. All of the contact information is on www.you2v.com . In addition, for the students sponsored through ACCEF, we require them to send us at least 1 letter a year, transcript, attendance record and teacher's evaluation. We will forward these to you. ACCEF periodically send our members to visit the students. They will report on their visits.
